Here's another one! The date is clearly DD from one angle but contains other strikes...appears to be penny over penny & struck again or? Any ideas...still having difficulties uploading pics, but am still trying:)

PLEASE NOTE: I have been collecting for decades, but don't claim to be an expert of any kind. I know what I like and buy it :) Thus the reason I'm here. This penny as well as the last posted are only 2 of a countless number of pennies in my collection.

This coin looks legit and stumps me. Looks like the planchet was subjected to some extreme force or is disintegrating. The beads seem thin as well. Nice coin. Can't wait for the theories to flow! Glad I'm not an expert for this one!

If you look at the date from front to back - on the right angle you can clearly see a double date (up and to the left). It appears to have a "film" over it (for the lack of better words) - thus the reason I thought penny over penny? BUT it also appears to be restruck as there is a clear "G" (upper middle leaf), other lettering to the left of it & upward to the rim - not consistent with the design though (leading me to believe it was struck a couple more times).

The stuff going on in the middle to 6:00 of the reverse side, looks like a lamination error.

Much more interesting and plausible than your other "error".
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

I'm still on the fence on the other penny lol I posted more pics & the rev is also double struck...I am looking into all possible errors & man made as well...I have found two similar coins (incl. rev date) - that's what keeps me hopeful...on the other hand - this coin is nice & one of my favorite - almost like a half penny on top of another (I know - my terminology sucks lol) I do have more - one is so iffy but I gotta check em all out :)

I agree it looks like it has a lamination problem mixed with wear.
