Hi everyone, if you haven't already seen the forthcoming circulating coin design, I thought it might be of interest to some here.

I don't think its all that bad it has a message to everyone not to forget. We lost a lot of family during this time not just immediate.

I like the soldier maybe if he was bigger it would appeal more.

ANZAC is something we all must remember and never ever forget what happened during those times.

We must not let those sorts of things to ever flourish again. Even though the writing appears to be on the wall.

I will most certainly keep a mint one no harm what's a dollar today. Like a penny was yesterday. not much at all.

my objection is more historical:
if I recall what Dr BEAN wrote, the concept of "ANZAC", until 1915, shortly before the invasion of the Ottoman Empire.

1914 could be commemorated by remembering the Australian Naval & Military Expeditionary Force which captured German New Guinea.

Hi Peter Thomas, I didn't know about that, thanks for sharing.

If it's correct - and I have no doubts - then you are right about the focus of the theme being misguided for 2014. I really get annoyed about other facts of history being blurred or hidden or forgotten as time goes on.

Maybe producing this particular design would have been more appropriate for 2018.

I know the RAM invites design ideas (http://www.ramint.gov.au/about/poli...es_circ.cfm) and I encourage all coinaholics to use this as a platform for getting their forgotten 'causes' known about AND celebrated on our favourite thing.

And wouldn't it be such a buzz to actually be THE brain trust behind a commemorative coin design?

That's also a pretty interesting coin for me, and the folks living on this side of the World too. I grew up on a rural town very close to the actual war has happened. I remember finding small things like buttons, metal pieces, even a coin of two (notably a British halfcrown!) when I was growing up.

Agreed about that, But the SPIRIT of ANZAC was borne in 1914.

The "Rising Sun" instead of denticals on the outer edge makes this coin unique as far as Anzac coins go .
I quite like it , being ex army

It has too much text and too little art. It looks like signage or a fairground token.

I can't say I personally like it, simply because the standing soldier does not look enough like a numeral "1" to trigger the correct response in my brain. I see at first glance a soldier floating in midair and the text "00 years of Anzac". Perhaps that's just the way the artwork renders it and the actual coin will look better in hand. Haven't seen one yet.
