I have just come across a 1864 $3 gold piece. It looks to be in pretty good condition. I am trying to determine if it's worth getting it graded and what value it may have.
Any and all comments are welcome.
Thank you

F/VF detail, polished/ex-jewelry....potentially a counterfeit(many of these are faked) Are you sure it is 1864 and not 1854? I would send it in for authentication purposes, but it will only get a detail grade if genuine.

There are many replicas of gold coins made for use in jewelry.

It looks like an 1874 to my eyes.

I can't say whether or not this one is counterfeit as I don't have that expertise.
