Pulled this out of a roll tonight. It has a large BIE die chip plus a die crack/chip on the reverse going from the rim into the memorial. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I know the die crack is common from the end of the memorial to the rim, but I thought it was neat how it continues into the bottom portion of the memorial. It looks more like a die chip to me at that point. Didn't weigh it yet, but it's not copper. Always check for that!

That might be called a retained die break, less common then just a die crack.

i believe that the "BIE" chip is fairly UNcommon for the zinc generation. I am not ahn authority - but it seems uncommon to me.

Generally the newer the coin the more uncommon it is.There were a lot of them in the 50's and 60's and then less and less were being found.

It weighs in at 2.57 grams. Are there less to be found because the copper coated zinc is softer and easier on the dies causing less wear, the mint's quality control has gone up, or all of the above?

Less to be found because of die design changes made at the mint,I think in the late 1960's.
