I've never had a coin graded before. I'd be grateful for recommendations and opinions.

I have been reading about cleaning and polishing since the observation made earilier in this post. Based on what I've read I do not believe that it has been cleaned or polished. This is one of the reasons I'd like to have it professionally graded. I hope for more input but when/if I do get it graded I'll let you know of what I learn (polished or not).
This is a great form.
regards all, and thank you,
Liverpool

IMO your dollar is not polished. If it was polished "hairlines" would be seen in your close up pictures. I do believe your dollar has been "dipped" recently to remove toning. Some collectors don't feel dipped are cleaned, while others do. In your pictures some of the surfaces have "milky" areas. The milky areas are where there was toning on the dollar, and sometimes after dipping this is the result. Seldom, if ever, will you find a 62 yr old coin that doesn't have some evidence of toning, especially in the lettering. Still a nice example of a 52 dollar.

Here is a scan of a 1952 PL64 ICCS Graded Silver dollar with no toning (the residue on the scan is on the holder the coin is brilliant)so I think Liverpools coin could be PL.

The weekend is here and it's been a pretty exciting week for my hobby. I did great on some American Morgans and Peace dollars but now it's time for me to decide what to do about my 52.

Is it nice enough to spend some money on having it 3rd party evaluated of should I be happy that I have a really nice $30 to $40 dollar coin?
thanks in advance.
