It is a Roman coin. I can't quite make out the legend by the bust looks a bit like Trajan Decius. I'm going to move this thread over to the Ancient coin section, you should get more help there.

Need to have a close up look at the edge; it may be fake.
I have a collection of about 100 fake ancient coins formed for my own education, and it looks similar to some 'contemporary' sestertii that I have.

At 3mm thick, it is a little TOO thick, and at 13.9 grams, a little underweight for a Decius. Same comments for a Volusian sestertius.

Lettering especially, is 'mushy'.

Bust type is like Philip "The Arab".

Not sure about "a little TOO thick" since my genuine example of a Philip Sestertius below is about 2.9 mm in thickness and 16.47 g in weight.

Also it has "mushy" lettering, but genuine ancient Roman AE coins tend to look like that after 1700+ years in soils of various acidity/alkalinity and being dug up accidentally then discarded and buried again etc etc.

Only when they have been stored in earthenware pots may they keep their details better.

And then we must consider if the Minters struck the flan properly in the first place to give good detail or if the Dies were worn.

Having a look at a Maximinus AE Sestertius I have to hand, the bust looks more like his.

Appears to be "IMP MAXIMIN..." on the obverse (head side) of your coin.

Have a look here to compare, though I see no matches for the reverse.

Firstly a thank you to you all for your help.I know nothing about coins ( only started detecting about 4 weeks ago), I have been told by someone to look at MAXIMINUS I,with SALUS AUGUSTI on reverse. It does look very similar to my eye, would anyone like to agree or disagree with that ? Also would it show more if it was cleaned, if so how would I go about it ?

Thanks again all
