Apologies for the fuzzy pictures, but do you think this coin is an authentic 1804 dime?
I've tried to match up all the letters, stars, dates and everything else with authentic 1804's (on Heritage) to this one and it seems everything matches up, indicating a possible genuine 1804 dime.
Cautious optimism. The condition of the hole - elongated through use - evidences age and contemporary creation. Rim looks spooned a bit, the lettering is too close and there seems to be a bit of "ridge" around the circumference not appearing on the regular issue.
Very, very tough call considering the rarity of the 14 star version (1/3 of mintage) and the year in general. This is still a 4-figure coin, even with the hole. If I had this kind of disposable income, I'd be agonizing with my finger over the mouse button.
I'd probably take the chance. What kind of number would it take to have the coin?
