An interesting 1875 UK penny

1875-UK-Penny-With-Raised-Dot

raised dot under 1st I of Victoria, note corresponding die crack on the reverse next to the ship - probably caused by a small piece of grit or the like

It looks very uniform and circular, not what you would expect from a die chip. Interesting indeed.

Almost certainly caused by a bit of grit - note the die crack and the suggestion of a cannonball next to the ship on the reverse.

we are currently discussing "raised dots" here http://www.predecimal.com/forum/top...d-dot-penny/

Can you post a picture of your coin please?

I do not have a definitive answer, but I am inclined to think it is die damage.
Does his qualify it to be an documented variety?
