Guess it pays to clean the house once in a while

Found this under a piece of furniture in my workroom this morning. It must've come from the large mixed lot purchased at a Goldberg auction last year. I remember counting the envelopes several times, came up one less than expected but shrugged it off a mistake. Unlike most from that lot, this one has an attribution typed on the old paper envelope. I have not verified the reference as the comparable coins I've found on wildwinds and CNG cite SNG and others.

Domestic-Archaeology:--Uncovered-A-Rhodos-Bronze

ISLANDS off CARIA, Rhodos. Rhodes.
350-300 BC (per various online sources; envelope date is more narrow, 333-304 BC)
Æ 10 mm, 1.4 gm
Obv: diademed head of Rhodos right
Rev: rose with bud to right (and something to the left); presumably P-O below
Ref: BMC 82-4 (from envelope)

Domestic-Archaeology:--Uncovered-A-Rhodos-Bronze

Yeah, I'll never win any Good Housekeeping awards...

I awallin01 am proud to present ThisIsFun with the coin community March 2014 Good Housekeeping verbal award. You have won for the following reason, for finding treasure whilst partaking in the arduous task of housekeeping. We/I applaud you *clap clap*.

I look forward to hearing your Oscar worthy acceptance speech :D.

LOL! Thanks. Except I didn't finish cleaning. This important numismatic discovery required immediate photographing and documentation. Now I'm taking a well-deserved break. Cheers!

There are many more strata to uncover, especially around the bed. Who knows what other treasures may be discovered? I'm hoping for a hoard.

Hahaha classic, and break well deserved.

Regarding the coin it's really cool, I visited Rhodes many moons ago. Amazing too think that coin circulated a few decades prior to the erection of the Colossus of Rhodes and. Rhodes is an amazing place, this coin has brought back memories :D.

Lucky you didn't vacuum it up.

Fortunately I never vacuum :D (all tile, no carpet).

For that matter I rarely sweep either. Only the threat of houseguests motivates me to tidy up.
