It does not really matter how it happened, there are innumerable ways to breach the copper plating of a Zincoln. All that matters is that there is no process in the Mint that could create such an ugly abomination.
No, none at all. Even if the plating was breached at the Mint(a common occurrence during striking which forms split plating doubling on outer devices), the zinc rot would have happened in the wild.
