Hi there, I am new to this forum and signed up to ask a question about my George III Half Penny.

Dated 1806, in good condition, however it has an interesting mint mark, if it even is a mint mark.

After semi extensive searching online, I have not found any other examples of the mark on my coin, anywhere. I dare say it could possibly be unique?

Next to the bust of George III is a little star imprinted in the coin.

It is possible that someone after the coin was minted came along and hammered a star into it, the star has the same age discolouration as the rest of the coin so I think it is an old hammering if it was not hammered into the coin at mint.

Does anyone know of any possible mints this could belong to?

I-Have-An-Interesting-George-III-1806-Half-Penny...

Thanks in advance for any information provided.

Someone gave it a star rating, but out of how many stars we will never know ;). As far as I know this was minted in my home town Birmingham, at Soho mint near the Jewellery quarter. Some were counter-stamped, but the counter stamps usually look different. It's definitely unique, but it in what way? I will keep looking, but I'm having similar results to yourself at the moment.

Too coin community.

A fashion in later years was to mount small gems into coins, particularly in Victoria's time. If this is the case here, some claw type retaining metal should also be visible.
