I've owned this 1822 farthing for years. I bought it at a coin show in Milwaukee, WI back in the 1990s as a Gem brown uncirculated coin. It has beautiful brown, blue and purple surfaces, shimmering luster and is exceptionally well-struck.
I was looking at it tonight, especially the color and surfaces, and began to wonder if it might be possible that it is a proof. I don't have any references that illustrate proof milled coinage and haven't been able to find any references online with photos.
There is a line under George's chin and some marks on his neck, but they look like they are striking issues, perhaps a clashed die, and not bag marks. The second 2 in the date is doubled on the bottom.
I don't think the odds that it is a proof are great, but thought I'd ask.
