I just ordered some uncirculated and proof Silver Eagles from the mint. When they were in the shopping cart it said they were backordered. Is that only because they aren't shipping yet.

I'm not sure. Two days ago I placed an order for the platinum proof an Unc bullion and the said they were backordered until August 3. Today I looked at the catalog and they were in stock, but my order still said they were backordered. So I cancelled the order and placed a new one and all items were in stock.

Hello Kenny_1745,

I think both the unc and proofs have a future shipping date of 7-23-07, so for now they would be on backorder.

I've learned that when the mint says an item is backordered, it might not be too accurate.

Yeah, I've just had bad luck in the past with the mint when my items said backordered. Hopefully I get them because I ordered a bunch and I really want them

We ordered some uncirculated ASE's recently, and had them in just a few days.

You got them even though the site said they weren't shipping until the 23rd

I don't understand the mints release policy. The proof and unc ASE's have been available from dealers for months (I bought both back in May at a coin show). I think they have been delaying ships through their own website to increase sales to dealers (who probably by the majority of coins issued). Just my thoughts - I would be interested in knowing what the real policies are (or supposed to be).
