Being new to this hobby telling small and large dates apart seem to be a challenge to me. To me this looks small date. Correct?

I love how fast everyone is here! So what is the easiest distinction?

On the small date variety, the bottoms of the 7 and the 0 will be pretty much even. On the large date, the bottom of the 7 hangs below the bottom of the 0.

The inner curl of the 9 is the easiest difference for me to see.

Hi Dan - welcome to the mix! Don't worry - before you know it you'll be a pro. This topic comes up often so I suggest you visit these threads going forward and practice your identification. I think it wont be long before your offering opinions on LD or SD.

Good luck!!

For me, the difference is obvious when viewing the two varieties side-by-side (and when I was younger, even without magnification).

That being said, I would keep this one handy and use it for comparison to future finds.
