I just acquired this piece, which reads "Napoleon Empereur" on the obverse. It is made of either aluminum or zinc, and it appears to have been gold plated at one point

It's not a "lifetime" piece. Back when Napoleon I was emperor and owned most of Europe, aluminium was still rare and expensive; even his nephew Napoleon III could not afford too much of it. The sans-serif style of writing also is making me think "early 20th century". And that Bohemian lion looks both crude and out-of-place on a French medal. My guess would be a cheap costume jewellery medallion.

This modern copy differs only in the pattern of the wreathing about the forked-tailed lion of Bohemia. Seems to be a copy several generations removed.

These were sold by another seller on Etsy, "from a vintage necklace I took apart."
