Hello Forum People,

Ive got this 2 lead coins? At least I think they are coins, just because they are round. It could be 2 Mereau? For the poor people. But I can't find the same.
They were in an collection of arabic/indian/german/united kingdom/jeton coins. Maybe that helps identifying?

The diameter off both coins are like 25mm
They weight 7,53 and 7,59 grams. So I think they might have the same function.

Thank you philadelphian for your reaction. But to be honest they look different then those. The shape is more regular then bale seals. I found alot of bale seals with an metal detector myself. But the shape is not good round mostly and otherwise thick. These lead things are not thick as in the lead bale seals I found also myself.

Maybe I am wrong though...
Then they should come outside of europe. As for I havent seen this kind of bale seals on forums yet..

For seals, I'd expect to see places around the rim where the cords went; I'm not seeing that here.

I'd assume these are lead tokens of some kind, late mediaeval to early modern. See this Token Corresponding Society page for some examples similar to yours, and some basic info on them. Also see the UK Detector Finds Database pages for hundreds of examples of such tokens found in Britain.

Yes lead tokens and not lead bale seals - did an intensive study for awhile with the American Numismatic Society of bale seales with Dr. Hoge and had collected over 100 in my collection. Interstingly - like U.S. Communion TOkens in lead - U.S. Bale seals are VERY RARE. I still own several from the U.S. Civil War period. UNIQUE. Normally with lettering and like you say a loop or broken shank(s) for the cord ... KEEP DIGGING ...
