I don't think it is a coin. It does have a date and the value is not in a denomination (e.g. it is '2', but 2 what?)

It must be a token of some type. The bird does bear a passing resemblence to some South African coins, but I wasn't able to find anything close.

It could also be a game piece.

What is it made out of? I assume it is aluminium.

Well, I found an entry here: http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces39616.html that lists it as a German token. Maybe a game token.
