111247665751If they are not going to be held to the same rules as you and I they should have to list these somewhere other than the numismatic categories. If I had a listing like this ebay would force me to include an image of the actual coin for sale, not a stock image.

Quote: Coins designated as cleaned have been polished with an abrasive in an attempt to counterfeit the mint luster, but these techniques often cause wear on the coin's surface. I would have chosen a better word than counterfeit to describe the mint luster. Simulate, imitate or mimic come to mind. This might seem trivial in the larger scheme of things, but I'd avoid using the word counterfeit in the same sentence as coins. -MV

Although they would never own up to it, ebay has different rules for volume Sellers like APMEX etc. Those volume Sellers also get a dedicated account rep. They help take care of those annoying pesky Buyers that cause problems and ask questions of why they didn't get what was pictured in the listing. If you sell a few million dollars a month on ebay see how fast they cut you some slack, too! Now if you only sell a few hundred bucks a month you better tow the line and adhere to ebay policies 100% or you'll find yourself on the outside looking in real quick!

if enough signatures can come to the table we can sue them on many different levels as a class action. There's a lot of retribution and punitive damages that comes from these types of scenarios.

Funny I was just looking at some $10 dollar Gold Eagle Liberty coins going for about $705 dollars, but they may well be cleaned.

I have been buying coins from APMEX through ebay whenever ebay has those 10% or Quadruple ebay Bucks, and free shipping, that discount sometimes beats most other sellers. I can then pick up other coin(s) on their next pay out. But I haven't buy anything from APMEX gold coins cleaned or counterfeited luster? I guess its OK to rub those gold bars if I ever bought into it. LOL!

I had a run in with them just like you folks are talking about but on a 2and 1/2 Indian head coin describe as Random Year and Cleaned .. they sent me a 1927 which I really wanted to keep because of low mintage but it was repaired and not describe as such.. I opened a case with them on ebay and they paid postage for return and to send it again.. I got a 1911 this time as it's notting great and could do better out bidding on my own..

That 1927 $ 2 1/2 Indian almost looks like it has rim damage between the 12 and 1 o'clock positions (?). Maybe ex-jewelry?

I'll just say there's a reason why the ones being listed raw with stock photos are listed that with the exception of bullion where they keep some raw for buyers intentionally. Even then some of those are grading rejects.
Sellers like that have dirt cheap slabbing rates, if the coins were that great they'd slab them and list individually like they do with the valuable stuff

I knew the owner of APMEX when he had a store front in Edmond OK, 15-20 years ago. (I think it was Edmond Coins back then). He was approachable, easy to deal with and personable. Things have really changed. Big conglomerate now, no storefront, mail and internet only, lots of big hotshots with suits and ties and impressive titles. They gotta sell a lotta stuff to cover THAT overhead. I guess ebay is just another way for them to move inventory and pay the bills. They've always been fair with me but I haven't bought anything from them in several years and as we all know, things can change overnight in this business.

I purchased two PCGS MS70 2009 High Relief Double Eagles from APMEX last summer through ebay, and one of the photos showed nice wooden presentation boxes with the coins. They had 4 available then. When I received the coins, no boxes came with them. I contacted APMEX by phone and they told me there were no boxes included with the purchase. I informed them that they were misleading their consumers who, like me, thougiht that the presentation boxes would come with the coins. They told me they would make a decision regarding my request and call me back. Later that same day, they phoned and told me they would send out both boxes. I then went back into ebay, and noticed they deleted the presentation box photos. BTW, I researched the price averages for just these same boxes on ebay, and they were selling them for over $50 each.
