Stone Mountain For Grading

I would guess AU-53 cleaned.....Though commems are far from my area of expertise, I have owned a couple of stone mountains.

Usually coins that show signs of rubbing or hairline scratches consistent with a cloth/brush are tell signs, if the coin is very clean yet shows wear. On the reverse Eagle side, there should be some more prominent stars appearing under where it says 'of the south'. Also the eagles left wing looks a bit faded, I believe on uncirculated ones it is a little more defined. I will advise you to await some other replies as I'm learning, and no doubt they will have better input than me. And I'm in no position to grade, just admire :). Nice coin.

I suppose it could be a weak strike, but I just noticed on the right wing a line going down it from the f on 'of'. I'm really not in position to give this advice, these are just opinions. But the branch the eagle is on, the stars and the wing I feel should be more prominent and to me it feels like they were worn via cleaning away natural toning, The thing I'm thinking is, if it were a weak strike, why would these three ares be particularly affected as opposed to the other wing, small stars etc. Also that right wing looks like excess from a mold? or something like that.

Again I'd await the expertise of other members because they are far more knowledgeable than me. I'm just looking for error versions at the moment, to try and i.d. a similar right wing.

I think your knowledge surpasses's mine lol. I can't find a right wing like that at the moment, which is interesting. I would definitely wait for someone who collects these coins or classic US coins to take a look. Hopefully they're will have knowledge of this. It might be an idea to get this in another forum and change the title, to try and find out more of about his variant on the right wing. Then go for a grade after.

P.s. Do you have a scanner by chance? I use a scanner for my pictures, might show the coin in more detail helping with the grading :).

No problem mate. No you don't need a scanner, many/most members use cameras :). You could try taking the pics under different lighting, and white paper helps for the background in a way I don't understand lol. Also I use picasa, to do my editing which can also bring out more definition in pictures that don't come out the way they should so to speak.

Me I've been collecting for about a month now, and I'm hooked lol. I love it, this site has taught me loads and continues to. I collect pretty much any coins, it's really enjoyable.
