I'm a newbie just starting my collection.
I found a few coins with what I think are trail dies.
Are trail dies gouges in the die?
Are these worth keeping or are they numerous enough that it isn't worth it?

I would look through traildies.com and look through there. I have some of mine listed and photos on there, not sure what they are worth but I keep the good ones.

They are on the die. How is not sure, but it maybe a problem with the die/hub separating. These are not doubled dies but similar to wavy steps. They appear through the dies life if they don't get polished out. Some are hard to see, but others a obvious. The stronger the more interest in these:

Will a trail die ever start on the edge of an object and pass through another? Is that how to tell the difference between a trail die and a die gouge?
I'm going to get that DVD in the near future coop.
I've been going through life with all this change in my pocket and until recently I didn't understand how interesting those coins really were.

Good question. In the images I posted it does not. But if something passes through or behind a device, that is usually a die scratch/gouge/dent.

Sorry I don't have a gouge/dent/scratch that runs through a device image now. (I've got almost 3,000 and that one was so common, I didn't save one....)

Just looking at a few of them, it seems they don't extend beyond a device. Nice question.

I did not see any of them extending beyond the end of the device either.
