I have had bad rash of losses lately and this is what I suspect is happening.
Example: If win a coin auction for $2 and $8 for the shipping. The coin supposedly ships from a Yugoslovia, India, or some other far off country. I am supposed to wait for it to come...up to 30 days later. The case resolution tame frame is 45 days. The coin never comes. No tracking either.
I suspect that the seller never shipped the coin. They are hoping that I'll forget my 45-day limit and they'll get to keep the $10. If I happen to remember to open a case before the 45 days are up, they simply refund me my money and move on. Sure, maybe they are out the listing fee, but with the chance to get $10 for free, $0.25 is a pretty low risk.
Am I missing something here?

Me personally I buy from my own country. If I were to buy coins from another country i'd buy from a business or a highly reputable seller. I have nothing against other countries, it's just I understand my countries rules with postage well in comparison to another. Also I'm impatient when I purchase something lol.
If I were you I'd stick to buying in North America, your continent has a vast array of coinage to choose from. Only if it's a reputable seller or business would I suggest shopping outside your continent. It's easier that way, and safer regarding losses in the post.
Is song a metaphor for something? Or did you write a song and win a coin?

I Agee with awal stick to North America if possible.
For the other countries though if they aren't going to use tracking I would cancel it immediately. Even if they really did send it there's basically no chance you'll get it without tracking

Same. I stick to North America if possible. Mainly to conserve shipping costs but I don't mind buying from some countries in Asia as I have a lot of friends living in India, Thailand, Singapore and Japan who can I can get the coin mailed to and hey can re-ship to me. I also like buying from most EU countries. Don't really go into buying from South America, Africa or China.

Sounds plausible. I would avoid future dealings like these, the old saying "if it's too good to be true it probably is" especially applies when buying from far off countries on ebay imo. even if I got the coins id be nervous if they were real or not, even if the pic they use is a real coin that doesn't mean they couldn't send you a very similar but fake coin instead. I bought electronics from china once.....

This is where ebay should be protecting you/us. I don't buy from other countries but if a seller is claiming "lost in the mail" more than 1% of the time then they should be banned - and any similar IP also banned. That is an obvious scam and ebay should be looking at any account with more than a 1% "lost" rate as suspicious.

Well, the good news is that I do get my money back. The bad news is that now, mentally, I have bought the coin and am no longer looking for it. Usually it is a coin that is quite scarce and I have been waiting for up to a year to find this particular deal.
I am really not worried about fakes, these are not high-demand/high-dollar coins.

I doubt that. If the seller doesn't want to ship to Mexico, he could just exclude it from the list of allowed countries.

All coins are being shipped to the US. I would NEVER submit a coin to the risks of shipping via domestic mail in Mexico.

Good call. Even photos arrive bent and mishandled. Oh well.
