I've been away from coin collecting for many years and I was wondering if some kind soul could tell me what year that the "S" mint marked coins ceased to be made for general circulation? TIA

The Susan B Anthony dollars were made with S mints until 1981, although the 1981 was only issued in Mint Sets. Cents were last issued in 1974 and Nickels in 1970. The last year for dimes was 1955.

1974 was the last year for cents.

1970 was the last year for nickels.

1980 was the last year for the SBA dollar (all 1981 SBA dollars were NIFC).

They minted circulation strike S-Mint ATB Quarters for 2012 and 2013, but they are NIFC.

San Francisco made some circulation strike cents in the 90s, but these were released without the mintmark and cannot be distinguished from the Philly cents during those years.

Philly and Denver are more than capable of meeting the nation's needs, so I doubt that we'll be seeing any more S-mint coins intended for circulation.

But, the S mint made pretty much every denomination until 1955 when it was closed for renovations until 1968. Cents were made there from 1968-1974; nickels from 1968-1970. They never resumed making dimes, quarters, and halves for circulation. SBA dollars were made there for circulation in 1979 and 1980.
