I am somewhat a newbie to the coin collecting world, and all I dabble in are US coins so dealing with a foreign coin is way out of my ballpark. I stumbled across this 1997 Two Pence coin in a roll of half dollars of all places. On the obverse next to Queen Elizabeth II nose is a large chunk of metal. On the reverse there are multiple chunks of metal centering mainly around the Prince of Wales symbol just above the 2 and there is a small Cud above the P in Pence and to the right of the 2 as well. At first I thought it was slag but then I noticed that the lower right side of the design was on top of the Cud or excess metal. That tells me it had to be some kind of defective planchet or the likes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks to me like somebody was practicing their jewelry soldering skills.

As did I, but tell me how someone could solder underneath the design. Notice lower right side of symbol just under the D. That banner is on top of the excess metal. If a person were to get the base metal hot enough to cause bubbling then evidence would show through on the opposite side but this evidence does not exist. I appreciate the input tho. I'm not a coin guru but I'm definitely no stranger to soldering and brazing.

It's hard to say what exactly happened--but it appears to have involved a considerable amount of hear--after striking?
