torgemco, it's some sort of die anomaly. This piece is clashed in a number of places and has a double punched D in DEI, in addition to the re-engraved 5.

While I'm thinking of it could I get opinions from everyone on my two 1870 pieces? I'm wondering if I have two different obverse varieties. When I compare the chin areas of each piece they look like two different varieties to me and I know that one of the two varieties is very rare, according to Charlton.
