I got this out of a Nickel roll my wife had bought for me on ebay.

I was wondering what this would grade at and to me from what I have read it looks like Full Steps as well.

From what I can see your coin is likely a proof-strike example ... of which over 3 million were minted in 1968.

The squared off rims and reflective surfaces are a clue ... you have the coin in hand and should be able to report back on the surfaces despite your scans neutering any luster.

Interesting that the obverse strike is slightly MAD for a proof ... I suppose that happens on occasion.

If by chance this is a circulation strike coin ... then it is indeed very high grade.

My views ... hope they help

David

Can you get a closer pic of the steps, in that pic they do not look like full steps.

But that said nice coin.

I'd say with confidence that that's a proof

Thank you for the replies. :)

I am only guessing they are Full Steps from what I read but I am way to new to all this to bet on it. I am saying that they might be since from what I can see is the steps run the full length and I would have to go and double check but I counted I thought 5 steps. The do stop in front of the columns.

It has some luster but not like the few proofs I have had the chance to see. Is there another way to tell ?

That is a brilliant proof with no cameo effect and it does appear to have some hazing which would mute the brilliance bit. Ignoring the surfaces, the details that give it away as a proof are the sharp squared rims and the strong detailed strike. A modern proof Jefferson is assumed to have full steps(any proof coin should have full details for its particular series) while only 1 in 500 1968-S business strikes will have 5 full steps.
