cipster Pillar of the Community United States 2364 Posts	Posted 03/28/2014 10:22 am Beautiful coin I'm far from being an expert but I don't think this is an O-135 variety based on these two diagnostics of O-135. 1. In O-135 Star 1 is only 1/2mm from the drapery and star 13 is only 1/2 mm. from the curl. This coin shows star 1 further away from the drapery than star 13 is away from the curl. 2. In O-135 Reverse - left side of I is centered under T. This coin seems to show the left side of I aligned to the right side of T. There are 49 varieties in 1827 and most of them are square based 2. I can't see enough detail in the pics to be sure of the variety. Maybe an expert can verify that it is O-135 or some other variety? Member ANA and EAC "You got to lose to know how to win". Possibly an earlier die state than the pic in my book and a slightly different strike alignment. It is listed as an R-3 in my older book. Report this Post to the Staff
sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 03/29/2014 02:19 am I think his think is higher. Perhaps there is only a tiny amount of wear on the high points of the hair. Only a few tiny dings, that are partly hidden by the patination. AU58. Has residual cartwheel lustre, patination and rainbow toning in a nice combination. The first I have seen like this, in a coin of this age. I LIKE it! This coin should be slabbed to protect it, otherwise the patination will take over. Forget what they say about the grade!
