I came across this one going through a roll and wanted to get opinions on it. It looks like it could either be a well placed die break, but it makes it look like a doubled column. There is a die crack that starts in the steps and travels up to the column and then it appears as if the corner that forms the column broke off. Does this make sense or could it be something else? Thanks.
I'll be the first to admit that the full obverse and reverse photos could be better, but that the best I could with the light I had available :).
The question I have on the scratch theory is: Why is the plating not disturbed? That is usually the case on a scratched coin. It also has an abrupt end at both ends. a scratch would be trailing off at the end.
You could still be correct about the strike through Coop, but the line is pretty small and might not have disturbed the plating, just dented it inward.
