It seems I have come across a 1997-p nickel. Its slabbed by SGS (I know, useless slab), but was wondering if there was a way to tell if its the super low minting with the matte finish or the other one. Nickels aren't my specialty, and was wondering if anyone knew a sure-fire way to tell which one this is.

Thanks in advance!

It always helps to see it, there are some great threads here on how to set up a camera for extreme close-ups of coins.

and there are plenty of nickel-nuts here to help out

I know its no MS70. SGS grades between 60-70, and I think thats the only 2 numbers they know how to use. Its definitely got a different finish than most nickels, I'm just not sure exactly what I'm looking for.

To my knowledge, SGS is a self-slabber of his own inventory so not truly a third party.
