Can someone give me an estimate value for 1833 cc Morgan silver dollar mint error. Instead of 180 degree reverse, its like 90 degree. New to the forum. Thank you

Ouch! How could you tell this is a counterfeit? And thanks for the honest feedback.

Counterfeit. Looks to be a cast copy. Where did you buy it from?

to the CCF blueak22

Heritage auction archives show rotated dies for other CC years but not 1883.

I'm thinking this is counterfeit.

OP, it doesn't look right, and also, the rotated dies only exist on a few years of Morgans, and 1883-CC is not one.

Not good. The reverse of this coin looks to be the 1921-only design - I've seen a bunch of counterfeit Carson City Morgans with that reverse. A little closer image would help, but I'm not at all optimistic about this coin. Welcome to Coin Community, blueak22. Sorry for it to have to be under these circumstances.

a few tings...

Weigh it. You'll need a grams scale
Test it with a magnet
hold the coin with the index finger and thumb on the rim, make a circular motion with the fingers. If the coin is BU, it should have this Cartwheel - halo style effect - that travels around the coin.

Coin should weigh close to 27.6 grams, if I remember right
It should NOT stick to a magnet
and the cartwheels should be easy to see.

I agree with it being counterfeit. Unfortunately I have seen and heard of quite a few fakes being sold at local auction houses recently. If an auctioneer does not specialize in coins, I would recommend taking someone who does to preview any coins being auctioned before bidding.

By the way, take it back to the auction house. If they refuse to refund you, contact the secret service about a local auction house selling counterfeit coins and the auction house will be in some seriously hot water.

@Collector-Corner, coin did not stick to a magnet and has a cartwheel. Don't have a scale to weigh the coin at the moment. Anyway, I want to thank you all for your posts. Thanks
Rest in Peace

I agree with chasingtailbar. Take it to a local coin shop to verify it's authenticity or lack thereof in this case. Then take it back to the auction house for a re-fund. If their first offer is no, give them a second option, the law.

No need too further verify. The coin has a reverse design which wasn't thought of until nearly 30 years after the date on it.
