I think it depends on the coin. I mainly have experience with 3 coins which include the Roosevelt dime silver, Franklin half dollars and Peace dollars.

On the Peace dollar, in my opinion, they grade about the same.

Franklin halves on the other hand are graded a little different. NGC, like ANACS, grades both upper and lower bell lines in order to get the FBL designation. PCGS only grades the lower bell lines for the FBL designation.

On the Roosevelts, NGC, again like ANACS, grade the FULL TORCH, whereas PCGS only grades the lower bands to determine the FB designation.

Have a geat one!

If I were looking to sell the coin, I would send it to PCGS. If I was sending it for myself, it really wouldn't matter, because it's just their opinion on the coin. But I might be a bit more tempted to send to PCGS since I like their holder a little bit more than NGC.

I would send it to PCGS. Their coins generally seem to demand a premium in the market, and I like their holders a lot more than NGC's

IMHO most definitely PCGS. I have been disappointed with NGC a couple of times, and right now I even prefer ANACS to them. Grading aside I also don't like the white fields of their slabs. Also, PCGS coins tend to have nice eye appeal for some strange reason. Maybe people with PQ coins tend to lean toward them.

Of course, all of the above is strictly speaking as a buyer. Both have solid reputations but PCGS coins will almost always command higher prices.

I guess it comes down to this. If I wanted to sell a coin I would go with PCGS (hands down) unless it would grade one point higher with NGC.

I have to agree with everyone here really. It all depends on what you're going to do with it. Quite a few folks here would never send a coin in unless it was to flip. Really no other reason to unless you're not convinced of a grade, or really want to know the value of your hoard according to a bunch of books.

IMHO, if it was a coin I was planning on keeping and I wanted to send it somewhere, I think my first choice would be ICG as they have the best looking slabs out there, and they are making a statement in the TPG world with good grading. My second choice would be PCGS though, as long as I know for sure it's not going to be body-bagged. You never know when you would be forced to sell, and their slabs command the premiums..

Again, if I was going to keep it, I would go ICG. Excellent grading, great prices, fast service.

If I was selling it: if I had lots of time & money, & the market value wasn't decreasing as time went by, I would go PCGS, due to higher resale value. If turnaround time was important & fast resale was essential, I would go ICG.
