This is getting interesting! Is this a DDO in WE TRUST? The ending of TRUST is strange and I can't tell if it is worn or through grease. The pictures don't look as good when I use the optimizer, I hope you see what I see. I can take more if needed. I don't know what is going on with the reverse. Is it a weak strike or through grease. It is pretty worn so that may be all it is.
Thanks so much everyone!
Deb

The W and T look like they could be but I'm not sure.

Or this one ?
I don't think I'm looking to hard, it jumped out at me like the 1936 DDR. I will try and get better photos but the WE TR look double to me. Thanks Everyone!

The areas above the tops of the devices next to the rim are die flow. When the die wears out, it makes these lines between the devices and rim area. The E looks like it might be Machine Doubling as well as the "T" in TRUST. I'm not seeing hub doubling on this coin. Sorry. I would think the devices would be thicker if it were hub doubled. The size on your seem normal on a worn coin. Here is what I mean as wider/thicker devices:

The best Pick Up Point (PUP) is on the "U" in TRUST for most doubled dies. (But not all though) Note on this one the bottom of the loop and other times the "U" being wider.

I'm getting there. So this would be an example of Machine Doubling? There are several in this collection so now I have to figure this out. Machine Doubling vs hub doubling. Someone gave me a site so I will go study. Thanks much!

It maybe just a normal looking die and it may have Machine Doubling. But what I was seeing is on the left side of the devices. Is that flat shelf like in those areas, or is it just shadow? But the overall size looks normal in size to me.

Deb,

Try this site. It has some pretty basic shots.

http://www.errorvariety.com/OFD/MD.html

John Wexler has a nice write up about "worthless doubling". he also has an enormous amount of documentation for most of DDO's and DDR's he knows about.

http://doubleddie.com/

A Machine Doubling will cut into, or reduce the size of the letters and/or numbers

A DDO / DDR will thicken (make the letters/numbers devices plump) or "double" the appearance of the letters, numbers or other devices.

www.coppercoins.com will have many examples. At the main site, to the top left, click the Die variety search link. On the next page, put a year in the top box only, and check what mint the coin was manufactured at ( P, D, S). Optionally you can scroll down a bit and choose what variety you want to see.... Doubled Die Obverse ( DDO) Doubled Die Reverse ( DDR) Re-Punched Mintmark (RPM) or a few other selections.

Hope they help = )

Went to Wexler and it is Mechanical Doubling or worthless doubling. It has a shelf like you said Coop, not a shadow. Live and learn. This is fun! Thanks Much and thanks for the extra sites Gary.
