Sorry to double post, but I went back and bought two more coins. The coins were only AUD7 each but one (if genuine) might be worth something according to the site
http://www.calgarycoin.com/referenc.../chinaid.htmThe coin on the right appears to be the variety qi yuan yi jin FD-375, SH-4058, H-6.6 listed on that website with a value of $1750 Canadian for "XF" grade.
I don't know anything about grades or genuineness or coins in general and the man at the shop said he didn't know if they were real (all the other coins in the shop are much more recent and mostly Australian/European and there were only a few Chinese ones in a box - the man said he didn't know what they were and they were all AUD7 each).
I sort of suspect the coins might be fake and there wouldn't be a valuable one just sitting there. Can anyone confirm whether the coin on the right does look like that particular variety and give any clues as to how I might assess age/genuineness?
Later edit: actually I'm pretty sure they are fake now so no need to reply.
