HI, I have a question that someone might be able to answer for me. I live in Massachusetts, about 45 minutes south of Boston. It seems that every other Canadian coin that I get in my pocket change has been deliberately damaged. Both sides have serious scratches running thru the middle. Ive noticed this for the last few years. Any ideas as to why?

Maybe damage from US vending machines? I haven't noticed the problem this side of the border.

Hello JRC,

No explanation for this because even well circulated coins are not that damaged. Either someone diberately defaces the coins or as suggested maybe the coins get damaged in machines.
Are these coins you get in change from vending machines or from change in a store.?

The change is from stores, from Vermont down to Massachusetts. It's not every piece, but certainly enough to make me look twice. I don't believe a vending machine can damage a coin that much. It just seems odd to me.

Parking meters are known to impart unsightly lines.
