How Many Different Varieties in Canadian Cents 1920-2012?

Note: I collect mostly from circulation bank rolls I find in Florida or pieces mixed into Lincoln cents collection I have acquired.

I just started by album my today after receiving a cool unisafe album in the mail. I collect Lincoln cents but in doing so I had about 900 Canadian cents in varied quality. It looks like a lot of fun I did a little research and found and combined list to come up with the below checklist of 171 coins. Is that right?

and what are a few of the top error coins?

Good start.
The W and WP were not struck for circulation, from sets only.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Thanks DPM that is very good to know I collect mostly from circulation and not proof sets. Its a personal preference that allows me to afford the hobby...

Hi OcalaFlorida

I notice that you are including various hanging digits and double digits in your list. Properly these are errors, but they are repeated errors (occurring coin after coin as they are minted), so there are lots around. Since there are clashes and date doubling on most years 1937 - 2012, as well as several clashes and doubling in the King George V period, I would say that your list needs to be 2 or 3 times as long, depending on which clashes you wish to accept. Most of the hanging digits 1953 - 1964 have single and double hangers, and then have varieties of the hangers themselves, with some years having triple, quadruple, and I think the 1962 even has a quintuple hanger. Check out the coinsandcanada website and you'll find quite a few more, there.

Happy hunting!
