All I've found is that Antonio Canova sculpted this piece linked:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psyche...Cupid's_Kiss

Regarding the obverse it's most likely Cupid link to story:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cupid_and_Psyche

I can't find a match unfortunately, my guess is that it was either a love token. Or it commemorated either a production of the story in playwright form or in book form. I know Ernest Hemingway had some letters between the dates 1907-1922 but I'm unsure I he did a version of this story during that time.

I agree with your assessment that it was made to commemorate some event, possibly a play or art event. The aspect that I find most puzzling is the "One Dime" designation. Why monetize a commemorative medal with a denomination?

Yeah that's what got me looking at US writers, to try and find the link between the obverse and reverse. I was trying to find theatre productions of the story in the US, but didn't find anything of substance. I considered the obverse to be an actor playing cupid in that time, but again no leads. Which left me thinking it was a love token or commemorative. Even the reverse of it isn't a match for the 1907 dime, does it?

It's a very perplexing piece, considering that Antonio Canova died in 1822 maybe it commemorated the centenary of his death. But again the reverse is an odd match, however it would be 150 years from his birth. Antonio Canova 1757-1822, maybe that's it obverse for his death 1822-1922 100, reverse for his birth 1757-1907 150. But the one dime link? Was there ever a one dime like that?

Edit:- One last thing what are the letters/numerals in the centre of the coin? Maybe yet more significance to the understanding, I've just done a bit more searching and that reverse doesn't match the one dime of that period-however I could be mistaken.
