I bet Crispus is laughing somewhere at my follies. Get it? Well, this follis is something that I've been staring at for two days now. I've exhausted the VOT chart and do not know what else to do.
Here is what I am able to read:
OBSERVE = FLIVLCRISPVSNOBCAES Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left (I think)
Reverse = (no star in wreath) Line 1: L? Line 2: VOT Line 3: appearance of possibly a V, A, or a star. I'm 90% sure it is a V though.
MINTmark = TS(delta)_(I or T)
So I assume THESSALONICA minted....The closest I can come to is this, however, the bust appears to be different to me.
RIC VII 125 (Thessalonica) or RIC VII 113 (Thessalonica)
Hey Met. After looking at all the bust types, I do not see one that fits. Maybe there's more to it than just VOT/V? I know the pictures are tough but its lovely in person, just dirty. Thanks!
Crispus FL IVL CRISPVS NOB CAES LDC left CAESARVM NOSTRORVM VOT V star in badge at the top of the wreath TS[B/D]VI Thessalonica RIC VII Thessalonica 118 c1 / r4 usually 18-19 mm
Thank you all! The mm is spot on, and to further understand this; Are you saying that a B would make it c1 and a D would make it r4? Or was there another deciding factor? THANKS, I can't say it enough. You all are great!
