Proof Indian cents can acquire some monster toning. Rick Snow sold a set a while ago where every date was magenta...green...blue...just outrageous colors. And all natural toning.

Not only is this a beautiful coin, it is also a Snow variety (PR1-repunching at base of '9' and '0'). The same die was later used for business strikes for same year which became Snow variety S13.

I think that first picture is something you'd never see without PERFECT lighting conditions and perhaps a little photoshopping. The picture of the coin in the holder is much more closer to how it might look in normal conditions and in that case the violet is still pretty vibrant. So I'm clear, still a very nice coin, but if I owned it I might have to lower my expectations a little.

The coin in the holder also struck me as more representative of the actual coin. What you call violet, trent, I see as blue. The red is lost on me. Color blind. A NICE coin all in all!

Quote: I think that first picture is something you'd never see without PERFECT lighting conditions and perhaps a little photoshopping. All you need is mastery of the axial lighting technique. Quote: Is this natural toning? Proof Indians and Matte Proof Lincolns are frequently encountered with dark but colorful iridescent toning.

A dealer I have done business with in the past bought a complete Indian Head cent proof collection that was stored in one large capital plastic holder for many, many years. It lacked the 64L in proof, but the example that was with the set graded MS64RD. This was an absolutely incredible set of coins. Nearly every one had deep purple/magenta/green/blue toning. Many of them were not too far off on this image. Many of them ended up default image in PCGS coinfacts for RB/BN proof Indian Head cents. I really wanted one example from that set, but the whole thing was sold in one lot to another dealer. I'm glad I got to see them in person though. Looking at the sellers listed items, I believe he is selling the collection I saw. Incredible coins!

For this coin, PF65 RB doesn't mean red-brown, but rainbow. Lol
