Hello all, writing from France here (where the keyboards are a lot different and very different and very confusing) where I am on holiday. I poppes into a nice "antiquite" shop today to look for some coins and saw a good size bowl labeled "2 Euros" After a quick glance I saw many dating back to the 1600's and was intrigued to look further. I left the store with 14 coins (1 or 2, I think are medals) which I will list below. I will add pics when I have an instrument to take them. If you have a value book I would be grateful if you could tell me the value as I al seperated from most of my resources at the moment and frankly cannot wait until I go home on the 6th.

-Peru, Quarto de Peso, 1823 (XF+) This is a good one, I think.
-Great Britain, Penny, 1831 (XF + again) these are two of the three in the best condition.
-Ireland (as Hibernia), Penny, 1769 (F)
-Russia 15 Kopeks, 1874 with an "H" and an "I" on either side of the eagles' tail.
-Prussia 6 Reichsthaler, 1816A (F)
-Italy, 50 centesimi, 1866 with an "M" followed by a "BN" on the reverse bottom. I'm not sureif this is a mintmark but have included it in case. (XF-AU)
-Baden (German State) 1/2 Kreuzer, 1823 (VF+)
-JAVA 1810 coin (nickel sized but thin as I do not know the denomination) (G+)
- 2 german coins from states which I don't know off hand so I will wait until I get home. Dates 1763 and 1765.
-Coin from 1660 featuring a castle on one side and 2 shaking (or holding) hands on the other. I will post a pic when I get back. there is writing but the flan was too small and discludes most of it. (G)
-Louis XIV coin depicting his elite cavalry on the reverse (F/VF but slightly pitted and dark and has spent a bit of time underground)
-another 2 unidentified coins/medals. one has been dug and has slight pitting but remains in VF/XF condition overall. the other is in AU+ but is thin and has been bent a bit, exposing some areas to more wear than others. I will post a pic of this too as it is nearly impossible to describe along with the first one.

Any ideas, comments, values...?

Pretty good find for €2. William IV Pennies are hard to find in nice shape.

pattiewhack, I can help you out with the British pennies but need some more info from you as there are 4 varieties of that particular year. I will give you the info and if you choose you can state which ones you have. This is from the latest Rotographic catalog for GB coins.

no WW EF £250
WW with no dots £35 in Fine, no info for higher grades
.W.W incuse on truncation EF £175
W.W incuse on truncation £150 in Fine, no info for higher grades

The exchange rate to $ is probably about 1.85:1 but I just usually double it, its close enough. The WW are the initials for the engraver just like KG is on Canadian coins. I hope this helps and it would be interesting to know which ones you have. Post back if possible but most of all enjoy France.

I have the WW with no dots. does this mean it is hard to find in higher grades?

-Baden (German State) 1/2 Kreuzer, 1823 (VF+)"

These three happen to be the property of my 6-year-old cousin who is anxious to know more about his coins.

Re: your cousin's coins:

A thaler is a pretty big coin; a 6 thalers would be humongous. What you've got is a 1/6th thaler, which is what "6 einen thaler" means. KM 385, $10 in fine.

Italy 50¢ 1866: "M" is the mintmark (for the city of Milan), "BN" is I believe a mint official's initials; it's the same for all the mints. KM 14.1, $60 in EF. Congrats, it's the "key date" for the type! (other dates are $18 in EF)

Baden ½ kreuzer: KM 186, CV $12 in VF.

The last four in your list might be jetons, especially if they look brassy.

All sounds like good enough value from a 2 euro scratchtray.
