I am confused. How can a coin of Constantius II be of the middle of the 3rd century? And how can that, in turn, be 1100 years after the traditional date of the founding of Rome (at most 753 BC if I'm not mistaken)?

I am thoroughly confused.

Ten years ago, when I was a young and impressionable teen, I bought a Roman bronze ring from a dubious Australian seller for 75 euros exactly because he could provide me with a certificate of authenticity. The letter itself was no more than "this is super-duper real! Enjoy! <random autograph>". That was all the assurance I needed.

Ok, I think I have the answer to selling on the bay.... here is a simple guide for us :-

1. Always have at least 25 percent reproduction in your sales list to achieve maximum cash.

2. Ignore all policies and rules and list in whatever category you feel like.

3. Charge a huge amount for postage then send second class without any insurance.

4. Have a strict No Returns policy.

5. Never answer any questions.

6. Make sure the background is 'grasslike'.

7. Be listed on all the 'fake sellers' lists.

8. polish the coins you sell then list as uncleaned.

9. When selling a bulk lot of coins, sort through them with a fine toothed comb, remove anything that is worth more than 50 pence then list as 'totally unsorted'.

10. Ensure that within your listing you mention the coin(s) came from a really famous place, i.e. Hadrians wall.

Sound ok? No, I don't think it does either so why is it working for the usual suspects?
You will never soar like an eagle if you hang around with turkeys.....
