Chris Stevens Gold/Silver Plated Kleeberg K.91F-L35?
Its basically a 75%/25% Gold/Silver Plated (not wash) alloy over a v.high pure copper alloy.
I up'd the percentages a bit since on the spectro we see Cu~10% which is the host (underlayer).
Dan Freidus - note how clean the organics is on this analysis. We see the #1 contaminant found on all coin surfaces === chlorine (Cl). Again - holding the coin by its edge is good manners but in many ways useless as it still imparts chlorine - wear cotten gloves or don't let people touch your mint red Colonials - just FYI <VVBG>.
The (?) symbol is here because there already exist a K.91F obverse CIV piece so will verify this Friday - if no match this piece may also be unique. Thats your piece Gary Smith you sold me about 20 years ago (Transitional CIV Kleeberg). <BG>.
This is the ONLY recorded Kleeberg with Au>1% as an alloy. Obviously as most of you now or will know 18thC silver or Sheffield CC8R's MUST HAVE signature gold and platinum as trace constituents in its alloy to be genuine of the period - normally in a 0.1-1.0% range. As discussed the Mexico City Mint is using my developed method as an anti-counterfeiting test on their coins in their trays developed initially from the MNA/Chihuahua Paper.
Luckily this piece did go through SEM/EDS Phil - as it appears as BRASS - in every which way (Metrology: 28.5 mm; 94.1 grains; Medal Die Axis Orientation).
Clem - your piece is in route - the grapevine tells me a guy name Ben is interested? Spectrograph from the SEM/EDS (as seen here) also with your unique Kleeberg.
