Ok, English is not my first language, even not the second. Other day at bank in Toronto I asked if they have by chance any COMMEMORATIVE coins, and all three tellers never heard this word!

You did nothing wrong...most just are there to do their job and couldn't be bothered to deal with someone's hobby

In saskatchewan here they don't want to help either---Its their job to do your banking, even before that is done they give yu your F-off pill by saying IS That all for yu today? In other words get the H Out of here Now....I don't think yu did anything wrong, and I am trying to think of Polite ways to handle these situations (Where teller says NO to stuff),They (Bank) have the upper hand actually...Even a "Please look for me" doesn't always work.

Nothing wrong with your English (although I am interested to know what your other languages are!). Many people have just not heard this long word.

Non coin collectors don't distinguish between commemorative and regular coins. They're all just 'coins'.

There should be plenty of coin dealer businesses in Toronto.
When you have some time, speak to one or two of those. No doubt they will try to sell you a book that has at least some good information on Canadian commemorative coins.

You never know, you could even end up being a coin collector or a numismatist, like one of us!

Sounds like diagnosis
In your opinion, how to identify a real coin collector?

Dr Zabb, thats easy. anyone who cannot pass up the chance to examine his or her change , keep certain years, check for errors , ect.... Or just love how they look so it goes in book or album, and I'm sure there are many other ways...

I have been with the CIBC for over fourty years. I did have a problem about 5or 6 years ago when I asked one of the tellers for some rolls. I think they were quarters. I got an answer that I did not like. I spoke to the manager and in front of the teller I told him that the bank uses my money to pay their salaries, therefore you work for me, now get me the darn quarters and do it with a smile........no problem since

We do pay their salaries, they do work for us, and its their job.
Remind them of that.

i think the tellers are purposely uneducated about coins so the RCM can get all their nickle and silver back.i spoke to a coworker that also has been working at my bank for the past 10 years. she was astonished that anything before 1968 is silver. she kept getting me to confirm, quarters and dime pre 69 are silver. she said, silver?, like silver? I told her I didnt want to say now, because she would take them now. she assured me she would save them for me if she found any, but well see.

They are not there for coin collectors or hobbyist's. They are there to do a job and entertaining us is not part of their job. If you find a teller willing to help than feel fortunate because that is not what they are getting paid to do....regardless if we are paying their wage or not.

My apologies if I have offended anyone with my previous comments, however after being treated the way I had been at the time (the coins that I asked for were for my business and not coin hunting) I had had enough.
So again my apologies

ha-ha, the best comment
Actually that's what I'm doing all the time. Since I already have like 3-4 kilos bag with nickel halves, I'm looking for silver only.
