I asked about wheat cents the other day at my LCS they said they buy at 2.5 cents and sell at 5 cents.

I keep finding them in rolls but have hardly any from before 1940.

I didn't even look at them but assuming I can get pre 40's, is five cents a good price?

Also I ended up finding a Whitman's folder that is copyright 1940 for Indian Head cents, It looks like it has never had a single coin put into it, and also has spots for the Flying Eagle cents.

What is the going price for Indian Head and Eagle Cents? I'm thinking low to mid grade cull bin, or are they not put in cull bins much?

My LCS isn't even interested in anything made after 1940 unless it's in mint state, I'm sitting on a couple thousand of them and I'd love to unload them at 2.5 ea.

I'm not sure what cull FE cent's go for, but at the last coin show I went to one of the dealers had a bowl full of AG- VG Indians for $1.25 ea.

My local coin shop has low-grade indians for $1 each.
A low-grade eagle may go for $10, I reckon.

Night Hawk, I'd live to take those wheats off of your hands for 2.5 each, alas shipping to Canada would cost as much as the wheats themselves.

Low grade Indian cents go for about $2 around here and depending on how cull you mean (holed, bent, scratched?), FE's are $5-$15. I saw a 1857 FE at my LCS with a large holed in G for $6 last week but it was really ugly and I wouldn't have bought it even for $2.

Low grade Indians at my LCS were 2 a piece, but they were mostly 1900+. I did grab a hole filler for 1900 probably VG8 to VF20. I can't remember what I graded it. Either way they're pretty decently priced.

Eagles are definitely more pricey but they're worth it. The 1857 Flying Eagle cent is what got me into collecting so I love it even though it's graded very low.

My LCS has a low grade box of Indians for $1 each. If you take the time to sort through them, you can probably find a few grading F-VF.

My LCS has a half price bin full of cull indians, large cents, FECs, 2 cent pieces and sometimes a 20 cent piece or two. They can be bought for less than $5 each.

Copper is near 3 bucks a pound.
It takes about 3 rolls of copper cents to make a pound.
So, even at cull and getting 2.5 cents each is at market value for copper.

My son and I gave up on penny boxes and we just buy BU bags and rolls from 1959-1972 or so.
We'll roll the copper and sell these for near 2-5 a roll over time and should do OK.
Copper bags are drying up, so we're grabbing all we can find.

Thanks all for the input, I'll see if I can run in tomorrow and see what they have. I really don't want to get my hopes up and for now I think I'll mainly stick to the wheat's.

The generic 2.5/5 for wheats has been the same FOREVER. It's hard to believe the price hasn't budged. I think I'm going to start melting wheats to dent the population.

I'd say that 2.5 cents bid is pretty good for common, low-grade wheats. Most dealers will only offer face for them. As far as earlier wheats go, I'd say about 25 cents on average for teens or early twenties, and 10-15 cents for late twenties up through '35.

$1-2 per IHC is pretty average, and I'd expect $10-25 per flying eagle.

And I'll echo the other members that wheat pennies are pretty much only worth their weight in copper. If memory serves, it's 141 copper cents to a pound, whatever a pound of copper goes for these days.
