By KARL MOULTON:

A new book titled " Henry Voigt and Others Involved with America's
Early Coinage" will be available for purchase at the American
Numismatic Association 2007 convention in Milwaukee next month.

This 230 plus page hardbound reference describes in detail the history
and drama of the first United States Mint. It outlines the problems
the people who worked there encountered in producing the coinage that
was so needed and wanted. Many original source documents from the
National Archives were utilized.

The 1792 issues are well chronicled by letters from President George
Washington, Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson, and Mint Director
David Rittenhouse. Those 1792 pieces were not patterns, but rather
the first circulating federal currency made after the Mint Act of
April 2, 1792 had been signed into law by President Washington. A
color picture of the finest 1792 Half Disme previously owned by
Director Rittenhouse is displayed on the front cover.

Subjects covered include Henry Voigt's involvement with steam engines,
many pages from his 1793 daily U S Mint work ledger, the 1793 Yellow
Fever epidemic, America's first coin dealer, 1796 Quarters, John
Reich, Electrotypes, the "E" & "L" counterstamped quarters,
and "Modern Information".

Respected numismatist and author Q. David Bowers wrote the foreword.
Some of his comments include, " Henry Voigt and Others Involved with
America's Early Coinage is a tour de force...this is the finest first-
person (so to speak) account I have read on the subject...I learned a
lot while reading this book, correcting many impressions I had earlier"

This historically important book was published by the Cardinal
Collection Educational Foundation, which supports research and
publications about early American money.

Copies of the 6x9 book will be available for $79. ppd ($75. at the
show). Checks should be made payable to CCEF. Further information
and ordering addresses can be seen at https://www.coincats.com or
www.Earlyuscoins.org.

Sounds really interesting. I'd love to read a copy of that sometime, too bad the price is a little over my head.

I agree it sounds like a great book, but $79.00 is too much to pay for a book.
Rest in Peace

You should see what I have paid for some of my books. Including books on series that I don't even collect. The standard reference on Conder tokens is a $200 book. I'm on my third copy. I'll buy this book.

Think I'll wait for the movie version on a DVD made by some bootlegger at the flea markets.

$79 is a bargain...This title will probably be an R6 in 2-3 years.
