Hi everyone,

People were so helpful about my 19th century button I thought I would ask about another interesting coin I found in some old coins left to me when I was a kid, that I've been selling in a clear out.

This one pence piece has been misstruck with what appears to be the mirror image on each side; not only that but the coin is convex / concave.

I've put a lot of stuff on ebay and this one only yesterday, but I've already had off the radar offers which makes me think I've underestimated the value of the coin. Is it worth a set amount, or literally just who happens to be interested? Thanks again!

This is not an error. This is a "squeeze job" (a.k.a. "sandwich job", "hammer job", "vise job"). Your coin was crushed between two other coins outside the mint.

Mike,

Am I glad the poster posted his coin here, and you posted your reply.

I recently ended my self-imposed ebay ban from 2006 as I needed to purchase some series 1988A error currency...

Returning to my old habits, I started viewing ebay's Global Sites as I've picked up some great errors years back that are not posted on eBay-USA.

Prior to the poster posting the photo here, I was checking it out on my 10" tablet on the UK site and thought it was a die-cap, as the photo was really small with low resolution and could not see the fake brockage that was added (link below).

Oh thats a shame, why would someone do that... Are error coins that valuable? I'll add a note on the listing, I presume it may still have some worth as a curiosity rather than anything else.

Error coins could be worth from couple of dollars to thousands and even more depending on the type of error. I recommend that you CLEARLY mention that it is not an error---unless it will be possibly reported and taken down.

Ive messaged the bidders and ended the auction as I cannot edit it now. I'd rather be honest and avoid the negative ratings!

Thanks for everyone's help, i'll relist as a curiosity.

Even more worrisome is the fact that I've seen a few obvious squeeze jobs in ANACS, ICG, and NGC slabs.
