At issue you can buy these for $100. They sell out fast. I guess they're for "collectors" who want to buy an ounce of silver with no risk. The hitch is trying to find a bank or institution to give you $100 once the attraction for this series has waned. It can be done but it's frustrating.

I believe this is what we call "100 for 100"s.

The Canadian mint has issued many $20 for $20, $50 for $50 and $100 for $100 coins in the past few years.

They market them as basic currency exchange with a collector angle and have been very successful...for the mint.

Essentially the silver $20 coins are 1/4oz, the $50 is a 1/2oz and the $100 are 1oz. They are not strictly bullion and thus don't sell for PM value. There is a ton of discussion about the validity of the FV and where exactly you can spend or exchange them or whether or not they are legal tender so I won't start that here.

Bottom line for me is they are NCLT and as such, there value doesn't come entirely from the intrinsic PM content.

BTW, how much PM value is a modern State Quarter? Nowhere near the FV yet some people still collect them.

I don´t take seriously any bullion piece that doesn´t say its fineness or weight. It´s not even funny anymore. They are simply marketing tools. ¨Here´s a piece of paper that says $1 on it, and you can buy it for $1...¨ Nice coin, but they won´t be taken seriously by me because it has the maker´s mark but no assay mark or hallmark. They only get away with that because the monarchy backs up our mint.

These coins will probably hold their value fairly well, even if the price of silver collapses. People will assume they are worth $100, regardless. Have Canadians that you know, or have heard of, tried to sell any of the earlier offerings in the series? I'd be interested to know the outcome of those transactions.
