1970-S Matte Proof Nickel? - Coin Community Forum

JoshHellcat Valued Member United States 139 Posts	Posted 04/22/2014 11:26 pm I found this guy in a coin counter bag along with quite a few nice uncirculated nickels. I know that they did a matte proof this year and I was wondering if you guys thought this was one. It took a couple acetone dips to get some green funk off of it. That alone tells me that it was in a pvc holder/album. Report this Post to the Staff

The only matte proofs in the Jefferson series are 1994 and 1997. Over 238 Million nickels dated 1970-S were struck for circulation though. Regardless of whether or not they actually made one that year, a matte proof might not have mirrored fields, but it should still have squared rims.
