A guy at work came in with some coin books for wheaties and nickels he started as a youngster. The wheats (88) are all common date and most are fairly worn. There are 28 Jefferson nickels 38-61 including 8 of the silver variety. These are also worn, though some less so than the cents. I don't know the key dates for this series, but can anyone throw out a fair offer, and maybe what dates are key. I need some of the nickels but don't want to pay to much or to little. Thanks

Since you can buy a full roll of wheats for $4 a roll, the wheats probably aren't worth more than $10 max.

The 2 main key dates for the Jefferson nickels are the 1938-D and the 1950-D. If he doesn't have those then the set is not worth that much.

I agree with the consensus.

I also agree. If they're all circulated commons there's very little value. You can literally buy a huge bag of wheats for not that much money.

On the the 38 thru 61 nickels, The keys are 42d, 38, 38d, 38, 39, s, 39d, 50d, 51s, 48s, all war time silver coins. You will be amazed on the nickels in 2007 that can be found in fed boxes or bank rolls. I have lots 1940 or 1950 stuff going thru boxes looking for keys to finish my sets. I found lots them still in 2007. I never found any keys going thru 500 to 600 dollars worth.

On pennys the 1941 thru 1958 wheats are about 10 bucks an book. The stuff that 09 thru 33 stuff is worth the money. Check ebay and you see on those.

chevrolet.
