Supernova definitely.
Nova maybe.

Without that "explosion" Iron is the heaviest metal made in stars.

From what I've read, silver is made by neutron-capture during the core-collapse of supernovae. As Kanga said, this creates all elements more massive than iron. I think it's a similar process to elements man-made in a linear accelerator.

I may not actually know where silver & gold comes from, but I'm 100% positive all my gold and around 700 oz/troy of 90% silver coins ended up in the melting pot to pay my divorce lawyer for 13 months work.

worth every dime

In a practical sense, the silver for coins comes from new production from silver mines and from recycling.

In an astronomical sense, silver is produced in a supernova. The energy from a star explosion is needed to make nuclei heavier than iron.
Probably helps to explain why the Earth's core is mostly iron, and why meteorites are chiefly composed of iron.

Mexico has been, for centuries, the #1 silver producing country in the world.
New silver comes from mining
