I was in Afghanistan and was given this coin by an elder, I have no idea what it is, where its from or what it is worth. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

It isn't a coin. It's a medal of some kind. The date "1366", below the soldier's gun, converts to either AD 1947 or AD 1987, depending on whether it's the regular Muslim calendar or the Iranian/Afghani calendar.

1987 would fit in with the Iran/Iraq War (1980-1988).
