I got 4 of the 2013 US Mint Limited Edition(50k sets)today..was mulling over MAYBE(expensive!)...send the sets to PCGS for the coveted "Limited Release" Label..question is does the large box need to be as is, not opened, to qualify for this, and, any FS designation?(How in heck can a box in 2014 qualify for that is a bit odd, but, need to know)....
Seems like these are picking up steam on ebay now, especially those lucky to get the PR70 DCAM label.

About First Strike from the PCGS Website - http://www.pcgs.com/firststrike/

As it is after PCGS's "cutoff date", you would need to send PCGS the original, unopened shipping box form the mint with a postmark date prior to the date PCGS declared to tbe the "cutoff date"

Thanks jhp....guess it's kinda hard to get a FS label on a coin that's 1.5 years "old"...funny how the mint JUST mailed these out...I guess the 2014 sets will come out in 2045

Seems a little weird to me also. I can only guess that PCGS uses the issue date for the LESP set. Even thou no one knows when the actual coins were struck.

I've got a box with 5 sets in it that are FS eligible, but not sure that I will submit. 40 coins would be very expensive & it would seem that unless you can get 2 sets of 70's it might be difficult to get the initial investment back. (Not to mention I would want to keep an 70 sets! lol)

The "coveted" First Release label is viewed as a scam and a sham around here, a way of extracting extra value from a coin which does not intrinsically posses it. If you do this, I'd advise not bragging about it in public because you'll (rightly, in my opinion) get dogpiled by the membership.

IF the US Mint would just
1---label each box with a unique serial number
2---keep track of dates struck on coins
It would end the FS nonsense, and, make things realistic, transparent, and, honest...I agree..there is NO value in ER-FS labels...only in prostituting for resale hype...
ANY Limited release coin, set from the Mint should have a unique serial number..it can't be THAT hard to setup the software and printing system...they did it for the 1983-84 Olympic Coins...my God, we were still using Apple II's back then!
